House sitting for Caravanners
Once we had seen that full time caravaner's were going to be looking after Glen Erin Farm Stay, we new this was something we would love to do.
Free camping, on a farm, possibly for months, looking after animals, in the bush or county, sounds great!
Joining a house sitting site
We joined one of the house sitting sites last week, paid $65 for a year and filled in our profile.
What kind of animals we would look after, such as dogs, reptiles, horses.
What states you would like to house sit and what areas within those states.
`We created a profile adding what jobs we had and a little about ourselves, also adding a couple of photos.
We sent off our first message for an advertised houses within minutes. Within 10 minutes we had a message from someone else who had seen our profile and was wanting us to take care of a home in Western Australia. We had to decline as we are still in Queensland.
The first house we applied for and a few others all messaged back with “we already have someone” this was frustrating as they could so easily have deleted the post or added a message to it to say they found someone.
We did however receive about five offers in the first week. One of which was on a farm with horses and chook. This is in New South Wales, we were not planing on going down that far for a few months yet. But once you get a foot in the door, on a house sitting site, it seems you are hot property.
We spoke to the owner Carol last night and she told us what she wanted from us.
Keep an eye on the horses and open gates for them, call them through so they can eat. Look out for injuries.
Feed the laying hens. They apparently lay 2 eggs a day, we hope we can keep them as we are big egg eaters.
Check the electric fences
Check the town water lines
mow the lawns
We have asked if we are able to stay in our van. It seems Carol already has two caretaker caravans on the property and we are welcome to hook up power and water near by. With a toilet, shower and washing machine we can use, we are happy.
Here are a couple of photos we have been sent of the property we will be looking after.
